Fit & Fabric

About our styles:

These clothes are designed for real people, not for supermodels! We currently have sizes from size 00 (tiny, though, even smaller than the stores' size zero) through size 20 in misses and plus sizes in some styles. Please take your measurements; our sizes may not correspond exactly to those in your favorite store. Our skirts fit smoothly over the hips and feature narrow waistbands, so they are very flattering for all figure types. They do not have side slits, which can look bad from the stage.

About our fabrics:

We've selected our fabrics for comfort, drape, and washability. They are synthetics, so they will not fade when washed. The musicians wearing them currently tell us that they love wearing them; they're not too hot to perform in, they allow arm movement, they forgive duffel-bag treatment, and our customers can wash the clothes when needed.

Knit Jersey:

Dressy, but feels like you could wear it every day. This jersey has a swishy drape. We wanted to use it in our tops as well as our skirts, so you could have a perfectly matching outfit if you wanted one. When you order this fabric in our tops, please allow for a little less stretch than you'd get in a slightly softer knit, like our stretch velvet. (You may want to order a slightly larger top, especially if you tend to be between our sizes.) The fabric content is 95% Polyester/5% Spandex, and although it has enough stretch to get the garments on without using zippers or buttons, it has more of a dress-like fit than a t-shirt fit. Machine wash and line dry.

Stretch velvet:

No crush marks on our velvet! So comfortable and soft, and yet so elegant onstage. You should be able to perform in this from September through the spring; it's not too hot! Machine wash and line dry, 95% Polyester/5% Spandex.

Washable Satin:

A beautiful, rather heavy satin, this soft, resilient fabric has a suede-like moleskin finish on the back side. This fabric is very opaque--wearing a slip may be unnecessary. Although pressing the fabric with a cool iron will take out wrinkles, it won't need to be pressed very often; even folded in a suitcase, it doesn't wrinkle easily. Machine wash and line dry, 95% Polyester/5% Spandex.

About our sizing:

We've tried to begin with sizes that will be accurate for women who shop for "misses" sized clothing, but many of our customers will be used to "juniors" sizing. Also, in the last few years, retailers have inflated sizes in response to consumers' desire to buy smaller sizes. Please order carefully. Although we will exchange and/or refund if items don't fit, this costs everyone money.

Tip for growing girls: If the skirt is too long, but fits the girl otherwise, and you want her to have some room for growth, you can purchase a piece of wide (1 1/2 to 2 inches) black sewing elastic, stitch it into a circle (or you can purchase a fabric-store buckle that will fit flush to her tummy) and then pull the skirt up at the waist and belt it in place. That way, once the top flows over the waistband, no one but you will know you have pulled the skirt up, and it will stay put. This way, you don't have to hem the skirt up, and your daughter can grow 2 or even 3 inches taller and still wear the same skirt.
